Welcome to
W.S.P. Website
Westminster-St. Paul’s welcomes you to worship,
Sunday mornings at 10.30am.
As a congregation of the Presbyterian
Church in Canada, Westminster-St. Paul’s (WSP) is a church in the Reformed Tradition,
which seeks to nurture people toward the development of a life-transforming
relationship with Jesus Christ.
The minister, the Rev. Karla Wübbenhorst, is the one
regularly involved in the preaching and sacramental ministry at Westminster-St.
Paul’s.
Worship includes songs of praise, in styles both ancient and modern, and a
focusing on needs in our community and in the wider world, which
needs are taken into the prayers of the People and into the Church’s programs of
outreach.
The church is currently in
the season of Lent, a 40-day period before Easter, set apart to remember
Christ’s temptation in the wilderness and to deepen our own spiritual awareness,
as we journey toward the cross and the resurrection. The preaching since Advent
has been exploring the gospel of Matthew, with a series on the sermon on the
mount. Our Lenten series continues with a look at the parables of Jesus from
Matthew’s gospel. (Check out the updates to the sermon archive).
During Lent the church is
running a course in Christian Basics with a view to preparing new people for
reception into membership at Easter. (Click here for more information). We are
also looking forward to the Israeli night on April 1 when, after a three course
Middle Eastern dinner, Rev. Karla will share a slide presentation of her recent
visit to the Holy Land (Click
here to see the poster).
We hope to be purchasing a
permanent sign for our church lawn this year, and ticket sales, at $15 for the
Israeli night will be in support of this venture (advance ticket sales only –
call the church). Information will also be available at the Israeli night about
an upcoming congregational pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Planned for February
2012, this will be an exciting part of our congregational calendar for the year
ahead.
We are also happy to announce that our 2003 build (which we are still calling
“the new addition”) is now completely paid off.

We will be celebrating our debt-freedom
at our anniversary service, this May 1st.
The Guelph Male Choir will add their
rich voices to our worship on that
special Sunday.
Apart from
the above mentioned special programs and
events, regular midweek programs at the
church include the Toddler,
Baby and Me group which meets from 9
till 11 Mondays and Thursdays in the
church basement, Toddler, Baby and Me is
open to parents and their pre-schoolers
from our neighbourhood as well as the
children of the congregation. Look for
the Searching Questions bible study to
recommence early in September. This is
a new group at Westminster-St. Paul’s,
meeting alternate Tuesdays at 1pm, to
which participants are invited to bring
their questions. Discussions so far
have been lively and challenging.
The “Searching Questions”
study group meets on the 1st
and 3rd Tuesdays of the month
at 1pm (complementing our regular men’s
and women’s bible studies which meet at
7.30am (men’s) and 9am (women’s) on the
2nd and 4th
Wednesdays (men’s) and Thursdays
(women’s) of the month). The Searching
Questions group has explored a wide
range of topics from predestination to
suicide to miracle healing, to whether
we should laugh in church (Some of its
studies are available online – click
here). The well-established Special
Days ministry, which features a dinner
and a devotional time, mostly aimed at
seniors in our neighbourhood, takes
place on the third Wednesday of the
month (12 noon). Many community groups
including Brownies, Al-Anon, AA, TOPS,
and the Guelph Male Choir make use of
our facility on a nightly basis.
If you are in Guelph we warmly invite
you to worship with us at
Westminster-St. Paul’s. You will find
rich, Christ-centered worship, and a
friendly congregation, ready to chat
with you at our after-worship coffee
hour or monthly sandwich luncheon.
Needs of
the elderly, among others, are met by
our fully accessible building and by the
hearing assist system in the sanctuary.
There is also ample parking in our paved
lot, adjacent to the building. A
children’s programme and nursery are
provided each week for your young ones.
We are a Christian community
desiring to be a beautiful thing for God
and a meaningful presence to those who
live in our neighbourhood. Come, let us
meet you!" |
