Welcome to
W.S.P. Website
Westminster-St. Paul’s welcomes you to worship,
Sunday mornings at 10.30am.
As a congregation of the Presbyterian
Church in Canada, Westminster-St. Paul’s (WSP) is a church in the Reformed Tradition,
which seeks to nurture people toward the development of a life-transforming
relationship with Jesus Christ.
The minister, the Rev. Karla Wübbenhorst, is the one
regularly involved in the preaching and sacramental ministry at Westminster-St.
Paul’s.
Worship includes songs of praise, in styles both ancient and modern, and a
focusing on needs in our community and in the wider world, which
needs are taken into the prayers of the People and into the Church’s programs of
outreach.
Preaching in the Sunday service is currently
focusing on the Christian Year: a spirituality for all seasons. During the summer we will
be celebrating Christmas (July 11), Easter (Aug 1), and all the liturgical
seasons in between. Each season has its own distinct spiritual mood and we may
find ourselves in the wilderness of Lent, not only in February-March, or soaring
with the wind of Pentecost beneath our wings, not only in the months following
May, but at any point. Talking about the spirituality of each season – out of
season – helps us to be more reflective about the various seasons of the
Christian life.
Of course in Guelph the summer season is inextricably linked with road works,
and this summer the construction crews have come to work on the section of
Victoria Road, immediately in front of Westminster-St. Paul’s. Our entrances
are bumpy, but they are open, and so are we! If you are from out of town and are
thinking about worshipping with us over the summer, the trick is to approach the
church from the South. If you are coming from the North, the simplest is to
turn right on Eramosa, left on Stevenson, left on Cassino and left again on
Victoria.
Instead of bemoaning the dust and the potholes, we are resolved to celebrate the
construction this summer with our VBS, which will take place the week of August
9-13, and which is on the theme “Construction I.N.C.”
During VBS week kids,
ages 5-12 will strap on a hard hat and tool belt and join Rick-the-Brick and the
rest of the Construction I.N.C. crew to learn about the building project God has
been co-ordinating ever since He laid the foundations of the earth.

There will be upbeat songs to whistle while we work, hungry-man snacks from the
worker’s canteen, games, and the chance to develop real construction skills in
the craft room.
If you are interested in registering your child for VBS, you can download
a registration form by clicking on the VBS link of this webpage. It should be
returned to the church with the $15 registration fee by August 6. There is a children’s programme and a nursery available
each Sunday.
In the summers we use a different Sunday school curriculum to tie
in with past VBSs we have offered. This summer we are recalling the Special
Agents theme of 2008, and equipping kids for the courage discipleship demands in
the 21st century.
Needs of the elderly, among others, are met by our fully accessible
building and by the hearing assist system in the sanctuary. There is also ample
parking in our paved lot, adjacent to the building.
Midweek programs during
the current season include the Toddler,
Baby and Me group which meets from 9
till 11 Mondays and Thursdays in the
church basement, Toddler, Baby and Me is
open to parents and their pre-schoolers
from our neighbourhood as well as the
children of the congregation. Look for
the Searching Questions bible study to
recommence early in September. This is
a new group at Westminster-St. Paul’s,
meeting alternate Tuesdays at 1pm, to
which participants are invited to bring
their questions. Discussions so far
have been lively and challenging.
The well-established Special Days
ministry, which features a dinner and a
devotional time, mostly aimed at seniors
in our neighbourhood,
begins again in September
on the third Wednesday of the month (12
noon) Many
community groups including Brownies,
Al-Anon, AA, TOPS, and the Guelph Male
Choir make use of our facility on a
nightly basis.
If you are in Guelph we warmly invite
you to worship with us at
Westminster-St. Paul’s. You will find
rich, Christ-centered worship, and a
friendly congregation, ready to chat
with you at our after-worship coffee
hour or monthly sandwich luncheon. We
are a Christian community desiring to be
a beautiful thing for God and a
meaningful presence to those who live in
our neighbourhood. Come, let us meet
you!" |
